Renewed laboratory units

Document Actions

Under the frame of CEBDER's WP 1, six laboratory units were renewed:

  • Laboratory of Molecular ecology, CLGE-BAS (photogallery)

The Laboratory was founded in 2006 with the financial support of the National Science Fund at the Ministry of Education and Science within the project BioCORE. In 2009-2010, it is used by five out of nine research groups at CLGE-BAS. The new equipment obtained via CEBDER project includes new sets of pipettes, laboratory pH meter, PCR, ultrasonic clearing tray, centrifuge and magnetic stirrer. Contact person: Nadezhda Todorova (N.Todorova)

  • Laboratory of Molecular taxonomy and phylogeny of animals with cryobank, Institute of Zoology, BAS (photogallery)

Laboratory is equipped with the main apparatuses required for the successful application of molecular methods in phylogeny, taxonomy and population variability of animals. It is split into two departments – research facility and a facility for long term sample storage (cryobank). The following equipment was achieved by the CEBDER project: gradient thermal cycler PCR, gel documentation system, Nano Drop allowing concentration determination of NA and proteins, high speed centrifuge, laminar box, etc. The Cryobank facility ensures long term storage of animal tissue samples at a variety of temperatures and correspondingly successful isolation of long-chain DNA. It consists of liquid nitrogen system with a capacity of 3000 samples, freezers (-86C and -20C). Head of laboratory: Dr Tsenka Chasovnikarova (T.Chasovnikarova) Contact person: Dr Krastio Dimitrov (K.Dimitrov)

  • Molecular and Flow Cytometry Laboratory, Insitute of Botany, BAS (photogallery)

The Laboratory was founded in 2006 with the generous financial support of the National Science Fund at the Ministry of Education and Science within the project PHYTO-Monitor. Since then, in order to establish wide area of research methods, new pieces of equipment have been obtained under several research projects of the Institute. The Molecular Laboratory has three research compartments – for flow cytometry, isozyme studies and for DNA-based molecular methods. The basic activities of the lab are studies of the genome size and ploidy levels in plants, genetic diversity and structure of populations, species relationships, etc., related to plant systematics, ecology and conservation. Recently, а Capillary DNA-sequencer was acquired under project CEBDER. Head of the laboratory: Vladimir Vladimirov (V.Vladimirov)

  • Laboratory of molecular taxonomy and ecology of marine organisms, Institute of Oceanology, BAS (photogallery)

Laboratory is founded in 2010 with the financial support of the project CEBDER. It is equipped with the main apparatuses required for the successful application of molecular methods in taxonomy and ecology of marine organisms: gradient thermal cycler PCR, gel documentation system, Nano Drop, high speed centrifuge, laminar box, analytic wage, etc. In addition some complementary equipment ensures the effective work of the main equipment: ice flake maker, vortex, micro centrifuge, dry bath, autoclave, etc. Head of the laboratory: Dr Snejana Moncheva (S.Moncheva)

  • Laboratory for elemental spectral analysis, Forest Research Institute, BAS (photogallery)

The laboratory is equipped with an inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer with radial plasma observation and 40Mhz RF generator (ICP Varian 715-ES). The apparatus combines radial plasma observation and effective implementation of samples to achieve maximum security, which allows to analyze vzisnatelnite and most samples with ease and precision. Completion of the spectrometer with a system for sample preparation -microwave oven-MARS Xpress reveal even greater opportunities for quality research. The laboratory tasks are to examine the elemental composition and contaminants in soil, vegetation, dead forest litter, water, air and other forest ecosystems. Head of laboratory: Chem. Eng. Dina Shuytsova (D.Shuytsova)

  • Laboratory of animal taxonomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Thracian University, Stara Zagora (photogallery)

The laboratory unis is equiped with a new light microscope Leica CD 2500 with drawing tube (L3/20) and digital color camera (Leica DFC 295). This new equipment will facilitate the investigations on the morphology, taxonomy and fauna of model groups of organisms (acanthocephalans of birds and mammals, cestodes of waterfowls, etc.) Head of laboratory: Dr Zlatka Dimitrova (Z.Dimitrova)
