Second National Workshop about Saker Falcon (Falco cherrug), 21st February 2008, CLGE

Second National Saker Falcon Workshop was held on February 21st, in Central Laboratory of General Ecology - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The event is part of research and conservation project “Saker Falcon in Bulgaria and Southeast Europe – research and conservation”, which started in the beginning of 2006.

The Saker Falcon (Falco cherrug) is globally threatened species that needs urgent conservation measures to be taken in order to be saved. For second consequent year the CLGE-BAS coordinates the research and conservation activities for Saker Falcon in Southeast Europe in the frame of Southeast European Saker Network (SESN) – a network of researchers and organizations working on the field of Saker Falcon investigation and protection.

Following the First National Saker Falcon Workshop that was held in the autumn of 2006 the present event is the Second National forum on the Saker Falcon problems. The results of the research and conservation activities for the Saker implemented in Bulgaria in 2007 were presented. The necessary measures for the species in Bulgaria in the next years were discussed.

The project and the workshop were financed by:

  • People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES)
  • International Wildlife Consultants (IWC), on behalf of Environmental Agency of Abu Dhabi (EAD)
